Endometriosis first diagnosed after menopause: A prospective analysis of the Nurses' Health Study II cohort.

Maturitas·November 1, 2026·PMID 42887272

Why it matters

Endometriosis is often considered a premenopausal condition, but this study shows a non-negligible incidence after menopause, particularly following surgical menopause. Clinicians evaluating postmenopausal women with pelvic pain or other suggestive symptoms should consider endometriosis in the differential diagnosis, especially in those with a history of surgical menopause or hormone use.
