Pulmonary complications with individualised vs. fixed positive end-expiratory pressure in older patients recovering from lung cancer surgery: a randomised trial.
Anaesthesia·July 1, 2026·PMID 41815001
Why it mattersPostoperative pulmonary complications remain common after lung cancer surgery in older patients, and optimising intra-operative ventilation is a key perioperative goal. This trial clarifies that while individualised PEEP improves lung mechanics and oxygenation, these physiological benefits do not translate into fewer clinical pulmonary complications.
