Intraoperative hypotension and adverse postoperative outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

British journal of anaesthesia·August 10, 2026·PMID 42575833

Why it matters

Intraoperative hypotension is common and linked to adverse outcomes, but RCT evidence on whether maintaining higher MAP targets prevents harm has been sparse. This meta-analysis provides the most comprehensive RCT data to date, suggesting that within the modest blood pressure differences achieved in these trials, higher targets do not reduce mortality or organ injury.
