Physiological limits of capillary refill time: a human endotoxemia study.

Critical care (London, England)·August 31, 2026·PMID 42706575

Why it matters

Capillary refill time is a common bedside perfusion marker, but its reliability during acute inflammation is unclear. This study shows that a single qCRT value against a fixed 3-s threshold can be misleading, as values change dramatically over time and are heavily influenced by skin temperature. Clinicians should interpret CRT trends rather than isolated measurements.
