Intensive vs More Intensive Lipid-Lowering Therapy and Plaque Regression in Statin-Naive Patients: Prespecified Analyses From the FLOWPROMOTE Randomized Clinical Trial.

JAMA cardiology·October 30, 2026·PMID 42961412

Why it matters

Coronary plaque regression is a surrogate for reduced cardiovascular risk, but prior imaging studies used intravascular ultrasound in limited vessel segments. This trial demonstrates that comprehensive CTA-based plaque quantification can detect differential regression across the entire coronary tree, reinforcing the value of achieving very low LDL-C levels in secondary prevention.
