Primary total hip arthroplasty after prior osteosynthesis versus osteotomy : distinct risk profiles and the modifying effect of femoral fixation.

The bone & joint journal·July 1, 2026·PMID 42379573

Why it matters

Orthopedic surgeons performing primary THA in patients with prior hip surgery need to recognize that osteosynthesis and osteotomy confer different complication risks. This study provides granular, registry-based risk estimates and suggests that cemented fixation may mitigate the high PFF risk after osteosynthesis, directly informing implant choice and preoperative counseling.
