SGLT2 inhibition modulates metabolic, vascular, and inflammatory molecular markers in the kidney in youth with type 1 diabetes.
Science translational medicine·July 22, 2026·PMID 42485434
Why it mattersSGLT2 inhibitors are known to slow kidney disease progression in type 2 diabetes, but their intrarenal mechanisms in type 1 diabetes are unclear. This study provides direct molecular evidence from kidney biopsies that dapagliflozin induces protective transcriptional changes across multiple cell types in youth with T1D, supporting potential kidney benefits beyond glucose lowering.
