Clinical Obesity Beyond BMI Identifies a Large High-Risk Subgroup in UK Adults.

American journal of preventive medicine·July 29, 2026·PMID 42526609

Why it matters

A large subgroup of patients with normal BMI but high adiposity and organ dysfunction is missed by BMI alone, yet carries substantial cardiometabolic risk. Recognizing clinical obesity beyond BMI can improve risk stratification and identify patients who may benefit from earlier metabolic intervention.
