Electronic cigarette use after smoking cessation and lung cancer risk.

Nature medicine·June 8, 2026·PMID 42260103

Why it matters

Many smokers switch to e-cigarettes believing they reduce harm, but this study suggests that using e-cigarettes after quitting conventional cigarettes may undermine the cancer-preventive benefits of complete cessation. Clinicians need evidence to counsel patients on the risks of dual or continued nicotine product use.
