Randomized Trialhigh evidence

Randomized, sham-controlled trial of intraoperative ticagrelor removal to reduce perioperative bleeding.

The Journal of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery·July 1, 2026·PMID 41581856

Why it matters

Patients requiring urgent cardiac surgery while on ticagrelor face high bleeding risk due to residual antiplatelet effects. A safe intraoperative drug removal strategy could mitigate this risk, potentially reducing transfusions and reoperations, especially in isolated CABG where the benefit was most evident.
