Effect of semaglutide on kidney outcomes in the SELECT, FLOW, and SOUL trials: a prespecified pooled analysis.

The lancet. Diabetes & endocrinology·August 7, 2026·PMID 42567173

Why it matters

Patients with cardio-kidney-metabolic disease face high risks of kidney function loss and cardiovascular events. This pooled analysis provides robust, participant-level evidence that semaglutide—across different formulations and doses—significantly reduces clinically important kidney outcomes in a broad population, including those without diabetes. The findings support considering semaglutide for kidney protection beyond its glycemic and weight-loss effects.
