Intravenous methadone for pain management in cardiac surgery: a randomised controlled trial with plasma concentration analysis.

Anaesthesia·January 1, 2026·PMID 40859435

Why it matters

Cardiac surgery patients often have significant postoperative pain and high opioid needs. Methadone’s long duration and unique pharmacology may improve analgesia and reduce reliance on short-acting opioids, which is relevant for opioid stewardship in this population.
