Cohort Studymoderate evidence

Divergent associations of weekly and seasonal sleep variability with 1-year glycemic change in Chinese adults.

Sleep health·October 10, 2026·PMID 42859126

Why it matters

Sleep variability is often treated as a single risk factor, but this study shows that weekly misalignment and seasonal flexibility may have opposite metabolic effects. Clinicians advising on sleep regularity should distinguish between chronic social jetlag and natural seasonal variation, as the latter may be protective for glucose regulation in some individuals.
