Neoadjuvant short-course radiotherapy followed by camrelizumab and chemotherapy versus standard of care for locally advanced rectal cancer (UNION): a prespecified interim analysis of a multicentre, open-label, randomised, phase 3 trial.

The Lancet. Oncology·November 1, 2026·PMID 42927765

Why it matters

Locally advanced rectal cancer carries a high risk of recurrence despite standard neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. This trial provides the first phase 3 evidence that adding immunotherapy to short-course radiotherapy and chemotherapy improves event-free survival, offering a potential new treatment strategy for this population.
