Exploring socioeconomic disparities: the association between the Mediterranean lifestyle and mortality across education and income levels in the prospective LifeLines cohort.

The American journal of clinical nutrition·October 9, 2026·PMID 42854785

Why it matters

Socioeconomic disparities in mortality are well documented, but whether healthy lifestyles can attenuate these gaps remains unclear. This study provides evidence that a Mediterranean lifestyle is associated with lower mortality across all socioeconomic strata, suggesting that promoting such lifestyles could help reduce mortality inequalities.
