Phenotypes of cardiogenic shock after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: the SCAI-V classification.

EuroIntervention : journal of EuroPCR in collaboration with the Working Group on Interventional Cardiology of the European Society of Cardiology·September 21, 2026·PMID 42765398

Why it matters

Current cardiogenic shock classifications often misclassify post-arrest patients because hypoperfusion mechanisms differ from non-arrested shock. The SCAI-V classification integrates lactate, a readily available marker of systemic ischaemia, to better phenotype these patients and potentially guide early invasive therapies.
