Shift work is associated with selective brain volume loss: a longitudinal study.

NeuroImage·December 15, 2025·PMID 41308939

Why it matters

Shift work is common and linked to disrupted sleep, cognitive impairment, and neurodegenerative risk, yet its neural correlates are poorly understood. Identifying specific brain regions vulnerable to shift work—and evidence that volume loss may halt after cessation—provides a structural basis for cognitive complaints and informs occupational health interventions.
