Endometrial ablation plus levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system versus endometrial ablation alone in women with heavy menstrual bleeding in The Netherlands (MIRA2): a multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, superiority trial.

Why it matters

Heavy menstrual bleeding often recurs after endometrial ablation, with about 10% of women undergoing hysterectomy within 2 years. Adding an LNG-IUS at the time of ablation may reduce the need for hysterectomy without increasing complications, offering a simple adjunct that could improve long-term outcomes.
