Etiology-specific predictors for short-term functional outcomes of OHCA: A Japanese Nationwide registry study.

The American journal of emergency medicine·August 1, 2026·PMID 42105435

Why it matters

Cerebrovascular-origin OHCA is poorly characterized, and standard resuscitation predictors may not apply. This study highlights that early defibrillation—a cornerstone of cardiac-origin OHCA care—may not be a reliable prognostic factor in cerebrovascular cases, potentially guiding more realistic prognostication and resource allocation in the ED.
