Heart Rate Surge Improves Cardiovascular Risk Stratification Beyond Hypoxic Burden in Sleep Apnea.

JACC. Asia·October 14, 2026·PMID 42909449

Why it matters

Cardiovascular risk stratification in sleep apnea currently relies heavily on hypoxic burden, but event-related autonomic responses may capture additional risk. Heart rate surge is a readily derived polysomnography metric that could refine prognostic assessment and identify patients who may benefit from closer cardiovascular surveillance.
