Prolonged Continuous Theta Burst Stimulation With Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Analgesic Effects and Corticospinal Excitability in Chronic Neuropathic Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Anesthesia and analgesia·August 24, 2026·PMID 42644812

Why it matters

Chronic neuropathic pain is often refractory, and rTMS response rates vary. pcTBS offers similar analgesia to 10-Hz rTMS but with substantially shorter session duration, potentially improving feasibility and patient access. The finding that maintenance sessions sustain benefit and DLPFC stimulation helps nonresponders provides a practical treatment algorithm.
