Ten-year insert wear and the migration of uncemented tibial and femoral components with either conventional polyethylene or sequentially annealed highly crosslinked polyethylene: a blinded randomized controlled trial using radiostereometric analysis.

Why it matters

Long-term wear of polyethylene inserts is a major factor in the longevity of total knee replacements. This study provides 10-year evidence that HXLPE reduces wear progression compared to conventional PE, supporting its use in uncemented TKA to potentially reduce late failures from osteolysis and aseptic loosening.
