Transcranial photobiomodulation improves prefrontal oxygenation and impulse control in adults with ADHD: a randomized controlled trial.

BMC psychiatry·July 14, 2026·PMID 42449279

Why it matters

Impulsivity in ADHD is linked to prefrontal hypometabolism, and current treatments have limitations. tPBM offers a non-invasive, safe method to directly modulate prefrontal activity, potentially addressing a core pathophysiological deficit. This study provides initial evidence that tPBM can acutely enhance impulse control and prefrontal oxygenation, suggesting a novel neuromodulation approach for cognitive symptoms in ADHD.
