Pre-Exercise Caffeine Enhances Repeated Sprint Performance and Alters Physiological and Perceptual Responses with Effects Lasting up to 3.5 h.
Medicine and science in sports and exercise·September 1, 2026·PMID 42679046
Why it mattersRepeated sprint performance is relevant to many team and intermittent sports, and athletes often compete or train for several hours after a single caffeine dose. This study shows that a moderate pre-exercise caffeine dose provides sustained, albeit small, ergogenic benefits for up to 3.5 hours, along with reduced perceptual strain, which may help athletes maintain intensity during prolonged sessions.
