Preventive percutaneous coronary intervention versus optimal medical therapy alone for the treatment of vulnerable atherosclerotic coronary plaques (PREVENT): a multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled trial.

Lancet (London, England)·May 4, 2024·PMID 38604213

Why it matters

This is the first large RCT to demonstrate that focal PCI of non-flow-limiting vulnerable plaques can reduce major adverse cardiac events, challenging the current paradigm of reserving PCI for flow-limiting stenoses. It introduces a potential new indication for intracoronary imaging-guided preventive intervention.
