Preoperative Intranasal Oxytocin and Probable Acute Stress Disorder After Traumatic Fracture Surgery: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

JAMA internal medicine·October 26, 2026·PMID 42931765

Why it matters

Acute stress disorder after traumatic fracture surgery is common and predicts chronic PTSD, yet effective preventive pharmacotherapy is lacking. This trial provides evidence that a simple, low-cost preoperative intervention may reduce early psychological morbidity in a high-risk surgical population.
