Faecal microbiota transplantation in irritable bowel syndrome (REFIT2): a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial.

Lancet (London, England)·September 24, 2026·PMID 42785338

Why it matters

Irritable bowel syndrome is common and often refractory to current treatments, and gut microbiota alterations have been implicated in its pathogenesis. This large, well-designed trial provides high-level evidence that a single FMT enema does not improve IBS symptoms, suggesting that microbiota modulation alone may be insufficient.
