Sleep duration and timing are associated with next-day physical activity: Insights from two large-scale wearable sensor studies.

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America·July 8, 2025·PMID 40587790

Why it matters

For clinicians counseling on lifestyle behavior, this study suggests sleep timing may influence next-day activity as much as sleep duration. It supports discussing regular, earlier sleep schedules when patients are trying to improve exercise consistency, while recognizing tradeoffs between time spent sleeping and time available for activity.
