Human skeletal development and regeneration are shaped by functional diversity of stem cells across skeletal sites.

Cell stem cell·May 1, 2025·PMID 40118065

Why it matters

Skeletal repair and aging-related bone loss are major clinical challenges in orthopedics and regenerative medicine. This work reveals that skeletal stem cell diversity is site-specific and that age-related dysfunction stems from a shift toward fibrogenic rather than osteogenic cells, offering a cellular target for therapeutic intervention.
