Hormone therapy (HT) in women with premature ovarian insufficiency or early menopause: Time to think of a new paradigm for healthy aging. A joint FIGO and IMS position paper.

International journal of gynaecology and obstetrics: the official organ of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics·August 18, 2026·PMID 42609071

Why it matters

POI and EM affect millions of women and are linked to increased cardiovascular, skeletal, cognitive, and psychological morbidity, as well as reduced lifespan and healthspan. Current management is often fragmented and delayed, influenced by paradigms from older postmenopausal populations. This position paper provides a framework for specialists to reframe HT as hormonal replacement for prevention, potentially improving long-term outcomes and promoting healthy longevity.
